Care & Maintenance
Body Suit - General Care
You can use rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and mist over the outside and inside to help deodorize and disinfect. Be sure to do this after every use.
Cleaning
Spot Cleaning
- You can use a carpet cleaner spray like Folex, spraying over the spot you want cleaned and using your fingers to work into the fur or a comb, breaking up the dirt. Then using a rag or paper towel, press down on the area to absorb the moisture. You can also spray some water over the area to help lift any remaining dirt. Once you are finished use a fan to help dry out the fur and brush.
Detergents
- Since we will be cleaning with cold water, I recommend only using a tablespoon of liquid detergent, not powder detergent. if you only have the option of a powder detergent, scoop about half to one tablespoon of powder into a bowl and mix with warm water first before adding to the washer or tub. If you add too much detergent the fur will have a slick to slime like feel to it after drying (which can be remedied by re-washing the suit without any detergent added). Only recommendation on the type of detergent to use would be one that's non-scented. You do not need to use a bleaching agent.
Washing Machine Usage
- Make sure it is set to cold only and on gentle cycle. Go ahead and turn the suit inside out, that way it protects the fur as it moves around during washing. For high efficient and front loading machines, make sure the fill option is set to max or deep so the suit has more water to roll around in. If you have a top loader usually you can keep the door open while it is filling, at this time you can place in the liquid detergent and let it fill before placing the body suit in. If you have a front loading washer, place the body suit in and add in the liquid detergent to the appropriate location on the machine. Make sure it also does a spin dry at the end of the cycle.
Tub Washing
- Use cold to slightly warm water (so it's easier on your hands to work with, but do not use all hot water). While it's filling add in the liquid detergent and mix around with your hands, filling the tub to about a third. Now place in the body suit and use your hands like rakes, working over throughout the fur. Once you are done, drain the soapy water and roll up the body suit in the tub so that it squeezes the water from it. Now fill back up the tub to a third way again to do a rinse, using your hands to work over the fur. If you still notice a lot of soap bubbles you might need to repeat this process of rinsing. If you have a removable shower head you can use this instead of filling up the tub to rinse. Once you are complete, drain the tub and roll up the body suit again to squeeze out. You can use towels and sandwich the body suit in between and roll it up to help with the drying process.
Hang to Dry
- Now hang up the suit, preferred over a tub or towels to collect the dripping water and place a fan or two directed towards the body suit (do not place directly under it). Allow a few hours to dry off, going in every so often to brush the fur and rotate the body suit. If the body suit has a liner you might need to turn the suit inside out half way through the drying process. Make sure the suit is fully dry before storing, you do not want any dampness to the fur or the liner.
